What is the gospel and how does it change everything?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

The gospel begins with God, the creator of all things. In the beginning God created the heavens, the earth, and mankind in perfect relationship to Him. Unfortunately shortly after creation, mankind rebelled against God seeking to live independent lives. Thus sin entered the world and fractured the entire cosmos, including our relationship with God and our relationship with one another. The result: death entered the world. A great chasm caused by sin left man separated from God for all of eternity and with out hope, set to bear the wrath of God, when God in His great love and mercy became man in Jesus Christ.

Jesus lived a perfect life in the place where you and I should have lived, and then died the death you and should have died to pay the penalty for our sin and satisfy the wrath of God. And then 3 days later, Jesus rose victoriously from the grave, conquering sin and death, and has since ascended to the right hand of God, seated in power.

Now all those who believe and trust in Jesus Christ are able to have his death pay the penalty for our sin and bridge the great chasm that has separated us from God so that we might be forgiven and be set free to live for Jesus Christ both now and forever.
